03-01-10: Alex FCCLA is still hard at work assisting their community and others outside their community, focusing on membership and chapter goals as well.
Alex’s Junior and Senior Parliamentary Procedure teams took first in districts back in December before winter break. They practiced hard all through December and January, preparing for regionals, in early February where they received second. Over the holidays Alex FCCLA hosted a Holiday Movie Night to build their membership involvement and increasing their membership as well. After the movie night, Alex FCCLA started developing and putting together the “Angel Tree” project. Leading the project, Alex FCCLA and other people in the community assisted about 55 less fortunate children over the holidays. Although it was a very busy time of the year for the local chapter, President Mattie Hitten still found time to give back to our soldiers by collecting care package items and sending them off to 25 soldiers.<
National FCCLA week was full of knowledge and excitement. Kicking off with “Families First” FCCLA’s National Program, the local chapter officers encouraged students to turn off all of their electronics and spend time with their families. Throughout the week the local chapter officers focused on member and teacher appreciation. Also, throughout the week, they sold “Crush” for Kids, an assortment of balloons, a candy bar, a can of crush soda, and an optional stuffed animal. All together they sold 200 of the “Crush” for Kids assortments and all proceeds will to the Children’s Miracle Network. FACTS day was next; the local officers handed out “buckle hugs” to all the students and faculty pulling into the parking lot who were wearing their seat belts. Parent Teacher conferences cut national FCCLA week short so on the final day of FCCLA week students and teachers wore a blood drive shirt and a warm hat/crazy socks to feel warm and promote the upcoming OBI blood drive “ Feel warm- Give Blood”; they also handed out blood drive facts. FCCLA officers and parents sponsored the Parent Teacher conference mea
The Alex Business Professionals of America chapter is selling purple silicone bracelets to help support Kortnee Robbins in her fight against Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Kortnee is a 19 year old sophomore at Oklahoma City University, and previously serves as the Oklahoma state BPA president for two years. The bracelets are $2; for every one you buy the $2 will go directly to Kortnee to help with the cost of her medical treatment. Call Brittany Sparks at (405) 785-2264 for more information, or if you would like to purchase a bracelet.
Alex hosted their second annual OBI Blood Drive on February 16th, with little time to announce the upcoming Blood Drive to the community, due to the weather. They still had 20 people willing to donate blood, the theme for this Blood Drive was “Feel Warm. Give Blood”. All donations were directly given in support of Kortnee Robbins to aid in her fight against cancer. Look for future blood drives next fall. This spring Alex FCCLA will be selling candles as their spring fundraiser. For more information about the candles contact Lindsey Bunch at(405)785-2264. All Candles are only $10, any support will be appreciated.
Jesse Goyne is the Southwestern District FCCLA President.

Alex Schools and FCCLA host benefit
Alex Junior Kristin Rogers was severely injured in an accident this past summer. We are tremendously proud to report that Kristin has recently returned to school to be elected Junior Class President and FCCLA Public Relations Officer.
Alex School teamed up with the Alex Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Association (FCCLA) to host a benefit to support Kristin and her family.
During the football scrimmage on 08-20-09, the Alex Cheerleaders sold bottled water and a Watermelon, Ice Cream and Cake Social was held, along with a Silent Auction. The entire benefit netted a whopping $2826.00.
High School and Middle School students also collected donations with the class bringing in the largest amount over $100.00 to be treated to a free pizza party. The Junior Class won this contest, contributing $136.00, followed by the Seniors and the 6th grade.
Thanks to Candy Alexander, James Byrd and Alex faculty and staff who provided all the food items and worked in the concession stand. Thanks are extended also to school and community patrons who donated items for the silent auction.
